We are living in the most exciting era when it comes to [M. Night Shyamalan](). The era I would call "A lottery". M. Night started strong. Critical acclaim and commercial success hit him hard, when he was a young film-maker. They were calling him "the next Spielberg". Then doubt possessed his sole. Some critics said something about something he did. And there he went. On a downward spiral towards the bottom. *The Happening*, *The Last Airbender*, *After Earth*... M. Night never truly recovered from this turmoil. He did great films since: *The Visit*, *Split*, *Knock at the Cabin*. But he then made strangely not so great films in between: *Glass*, *Old*, the strangely *The Happening* esque ending of *Knock at the Cabin*. Going today to an M. Night Shyamalan movie is truly a lottery. You never know what you are gonna get. With *Trap* we all got a fucking jack-pot!

I know, some of you have an issue with the whole [Saleka Night Shyamalan]() nepotism thing. Manoj in his great wisdom decided to cast his own daughter ( who is a good singer ) in the role of the center-piece MacGuffin obsession-driving, mega-celeb, the movie revolves around. Let me explain...

The movie revolves around a concert. Our 2 main characters Riley and her dad Cooper arrive to the venue and the girl is dying from excitement. Like [Ariel Donoghue]() acted her ass off to sell the girl's excitement. Let me tell you that: she wont ever forget this day. The girl is a huge, mega-huge, super-fan of this singer / pop-star / icon "Lady Raven". Think "Lady Gaga", but "Raven" 'cause ravens are dark and nightly, and it is an M. Night Shyamalan movie. So "Raven", for fuck's sake! This "Lady Raven" who the girl and pretty much the entire world is obsessed over is played by Saleka. M. Night's daughter.

So yeah, I get the Nepotism allegation... boo... boo... yeah yeah... BUT! Here is a thing. I think in this movie it is kind of brilliant.

Imagine his daughter reading this fucking script! Imagine the shock, she must have had. So Riley and Cooper ( her dad ) go to the venue. The dad is a little awkward. A little out of touch with her peers. She must have looked at her dad. She must have thought about M. Night. And then... he is a fucking serial killer!

Keeping thing thought while watching this movie, makes you realize how good M. Night is at corrupting the audience. He didn't just make you sympathize with a serial killer. I mean some of it was [Josh Hartnett](). Don't get me wrong. Josh is such a good actor, he can make you fall in love with anybody. But anyway... M. Night not just wrote a serial killer you care about, but he actually pulled off fucking Nepotism being a genius move.
