Six Acts ( or S#x Acts ) is an erotic drama horror film about a girl who is slowly realizing that she is being abused. The film feels strangely like the seduction scene in Taxi Driver but stretched out into 6 chapters, filling up a feature length movie.

The script is properly Lars Von Trierian. Rona Segal, the screenwriter of this movie, wrote a very depressing movie about, probably, her views on men. The main character ( Sivan Levy ) starts as a naive girl, which quickly falls in love with a guy ( Eviatar Mor ). Yet throughout the movie, we learn that this guy, appears to be a Pimp, who all this time manipulates her into sex with other people. The punchline ( that I would definitely expect from somebody like Von Trier ) is that he even sells her to his own 13 year old brother ( Tal Grushka ) . In the whole film, you want to believe that some of those people might be nice. But every single time they are not. Even the kid is a fucking asshole.

What strikes as maybe a deliberate choice of try to imitate Von Trier is that the director Jonathan Gurfinkel shoots this movie like Von Trier. The whole film is shot with semi-improvised handheld shots. And while Gurfinkel doesn't go into the Nymphomaniac territory with the sex scenes ( there is one and half shots where in the frame you may see something resembling a penis and only one shot clearly showing tits. Von Trier would have shown everything all the time ), the film is still very visceral in that category. I would describe the sex stuff as the sex stuff in films by Luca Guadagnino like Call Me By Your Name, but way more depressing.

The film has no score. There is sometimes a tension building presence of a low tone in the background. But no actual music. All of the music you hear is diegetic ( as in it plays in the world of the movie ). This is a departure from Von Trier. Von Trier likes to play melancholic classical music when cringe happens.

I actually would be interested to see a cut of this film with Von Trier style soundtrack. Maybe I should make one myself, just for a test.

The film is acted fucking phenomenally. Especially by Sivan Levy. She goes into some risky territory here. In one shot, what she does in front of the camera, is legally questionable ( she shows tits to Tal Grushka, who was 13 at the time ). In another scene she is literally crushed by a big guy ( Niv Zilberberg ) who is laying on top of her and, maybe, raping her in the film. And yet through all of this, her performance is really fucking heartbreaking. She slowly ( painfully slowly ) realizes that the whole world is abusing her, yet she still wants to keep some of that pride, or hope, or something, that some people are still good, or that they like her in some way or another.

How daring must be a film studio to make a film applauding the acts of the Japanese Empire not only for the local, but the global market as well. One of the ways to do it, is to make a documentary, use objectivity as a shield for political play. Alternatively it can be about the individuals, who were concerned about the life of brethren than some pity war goals.
