Blender DumbassThis was the first time I've ever cried from a film. And that experience made me addicted, both to Steven Spielberg and A.I. and also to watching films seriously. Taking in what the directors is trying to do. Letting the film overwhelm you. Letting it break you. And perhaps made me a better filmmaker myself.
Midsommar is not a horror film

Blender DumbassOn the very basic surface level it could be read as a horror film. It is slashery in nature. It has very gruesome body mutilation scenes. But the film feels less of a horror and more of something like Nicolas Winding Refn's film Only God Forgives. Only this one has Ari Aster written all over it.

Blender DumbassCritics often think Michael Bay doesn't give a damn about characters, but how can you believe that when everything in the film is shut deliberately to be from a perspective of a character? Michael Bay is Lars Von Trier of action. Lars uses strange chaotic camera work and weird editing choices to elevate the emotion on screen and Michael Bay uses chaotic camera work and weird editing choices to elevate the emotions too. If you take him seriously everything clicks into place. It's just Michael Bay likes it louder.
Wrath of Man is why I love Guy Ritchie

Blender DumbassWrath of Man is one of such, very Guy Ritchie, very crime trillery, very Quentin Tarantino-inspired films. It has just enough cold detachment, just enough calculated precision and just enough artful pathos to make you feel the false-psychopathy of the main character played by Jason Statham.
Transformers is Good if You Take it Seriously

Blender DumbassThere is a certain sense among cinephiles that the danish filmmaker Lars Von Trier is nothing but an edge lord, making his films simply as a sort of pornography designed to outrage people. It does not help his case that his films are some of the hardest films to watch. And it doesn't help that his movies tend to touch upon uncomfortable things in very uncomfortable ways. Yet I don't believe Lars Von Trier does any of that for laughs.

Blender DumbassObviously I watched Revenge because it was directed by Coralie Fargeat, the director of current world-wide phenomenon The Substance. Even though Revenge is her directorial debut, I didn't not think it would be a bad film going into it, based on what I know about The Substance. And my expectations were pretty much met exactly.
1941 is the Ultimate Steven Spielberg Film

Blender Dumbass1941 ( a 1979 Steven Spielberg action comedy film ) seems like a parody of Michael Bay. The film's credits literally have explosions happen all throughout, under the scrolling text. There is so much colorful destruction, so much over the top action scenes, so much loud over-bombardment, that I believe this is the Ultimate Steven Spielberg film.
How The Fabelmans Traumatized Me

Blender DumbassI remember sitting at the entrance to a local cinema near me, shivering from a new kind of depression. I was waiting to enter the screening of Avatar: The Way Of Water, which was released in cinema just after The Fabelmans. The previous film I have seen in that very cinema, maybe already a week before that, was The Fabelmans and that dreadful feeling I had was caused by that movie. I was committing an act of masochism going back to cinema right after the trauma I experienced, and I was pretty sure Avatar 2 would only make it worse. I didn't care. I went anyway. Thank god that James Cameron decided to limit references to himself to a few nods to Titanic and stuff, and instead made a movie that is pretty much designed as a joyride. I don't know if I was alive today if Avatar 2 was anything like The Fabelmans.
Avatar: The Way of Water is a sublime experience

Blender DumbassI was frankly scared to re-experience the original James Cameron picture Avatar after knowing for certain that it is much worse, technically speaking, in comparison to the second film in the franchise. Yet I was confident that the film at the very least should be good. So I took my worries aside and watched it again. Does it hold up? Well let's talk about it.
