This is the first version of Dani's Race published with the ↩ Reply
unlock idea ( which still doesn't have a name ). Let's see ↩ Reply
how it goes. ↩ Reply

Day Night Cycle

Since the last version of the game, I have implement a day / night ↩ Reply
cycle, by figuring out how to control values in the world material ↩ Reply
using game logic. Basically the idea is, you control an object the ↩ Reply
location values of which drive values inside of the world material. ↩ Reply

And here is a screenshot of the nodes that make the magic happen. ↩ Reply
As you can understand, as soon as this publication is unlocked, ↩ Reply
you will be able to scrutinize it and see for yourself what exactly ↩ Reply
I did there to make it work. ↩ Reply

[embedded image]

Context aware Backgrounds

As you can see the world material is a bit more complex than mixing ↩ Reply
between day and night. It has also morning and evening states. And ↩ Reply
not just that, context aware state. Where you can see the racetrack ↩ Reply
being drawn to the world material if you are in the city. ↩ Reply

[embedded image]

And vise versa, where the city is being drawn if you are in the racetrack. ↩ Reply

[embedded image]

There were also alignment issues that I had to solve by moving the racetrack ↩ Reply
side to side based on where Dani is in 3D space. So that the tunnel always ↩ Reply
aligns with the real tunnel in 3D space. ↩ Reply

Control Settings

I have introduced settings in the previous release of the game. But they didn't ↩ Reply
have any control settings. Now you can setup how you want to control the game. ↩ Reply

[embedded image]

And as you can see on that screenshot, you can now control the car using the mouse ↩ Reply
and not the keyboard. Which gives you way more precise controls over steering and ↩ Reply
throttle. ↩ Reply

With that come 2 modes, both of which are optional, of how to show the mouse to you. ↩ Reply
You can either select to show the regular mouse cursor, or as in this image, to show ↩ Reply
guides that are rendered outside of the view, to not distract you from driving. ↩ Reply

[embedded image]

To other settings, cheat-codes could now be disabled for cheat-less mode. ↩ Reply
And you can control the speed of your day. ↩ Reply

Multiplayer

Since forever people requested a multiplayer to be present within the game. ↩ Reply
Finally this version will introduce the concept into Dani's Race. ↩ Reply
I've implemented the most basic Server / Client configuration, good enough ↩ Reply
to more or less play together. I tried it with a few friends and it worked. ↩ Reply
I would not say that it worked fine, though. It is very early for it to be ↩ Reply
used for anything more than a few laughs about how buggy it is. But it is a ↩ Reply
start. ↩ Reply

At the moment the feature is very manual to set up. Unless ( check the comments ) ↩ Reply
somebody had set up an actual server. A friend of mine who has servers did that ↩ Reply
for the period of testing, I'm not sure if that thing is up right now. ↩ Reply

If not, the server software is in the "Scripts" folder and is called "Multiplayer_Server.py" ↩ Reply
. If you know how to do port-forwarding, or you want to simply play on the local network ↩ Reply
with the family, you can run this script for the server. And setup the client in the ↩ Reply
settings of the game. ↩ Reply

[icon reviews]Domino 2005 is Tony-Scott-hem!

Tony Scott appeared to be trying to outgrow Michael Bay in the 2000s. In 2001 he does Spy Game which is a kind of slightly bayhem-ish movie. Where Tony Scott is no longer trying to make pretty pictures, but is trying to go for ultimate intensity. His Enemy of the State before that, is still more of a classic Tony Scott. While making Spy Game his brother Ridley Scott was making Black Hawk Down while Michael Bay was making Pearl Harbor. While Pearl Harbor has the Bay's explosions and stuff, the colors of the film still look relatively normal. Only his next film ( 2003 Bay Boys II ) go crazy with colors. Spy Game, while being more energetic in directing and editing department, than even Enemy of the State still looks like a normal movie, albeit it is a little desaturated. But Black Hawk Down ( probably in attempt of messing with Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan ) is super moody, with extreme contrast and intense colors. A thing that Michael Bay tries to replicate right away for Bad Boys II and then Tony Scott also replicated for Man on Fire in 2004. And then on Domino in 2005, Tony Scott goes even harder with the style. While Bay is doing roughly the same thing in his own way in The Island.

[icon reviews]Vicious 2025 is a cool little therapy movie

A lot of horror films are therapeutic in nature. They let you see and examine some dark things about yourself or the world. And that is a good thing. For example, some people were "cured" from suicidal thoughts by watching the Saw franchise. A running theme in those films, is that Saw would choose some rather depressed, suicidal individuals for the "games". Where they need to do some utterly bad shit crazy things to themselves, to survive. That puts the whole suicide thing into perspective. Making you really understand how pointless it is, as a solution. The 2025 film Vicious written and directed by Bryan Bertino and starring Dakota Fanning is also a therapy horror film.
