In the movie May December the story is about a young actress preparing for a role where the main character is based on a very similar woman to Mary Fualaau. The young actress is played by Natalie Portman, the woman she is preparing to play is played by Julianne Moore and her young husband is played by Charles Melton
. The main thematic arc is for Portman's character to become so much like Moore's character, that she truly understands her. Which is in my opinion a very meta thing for Portman to do.
Joel Courtney plays the main character Joe, who is phenomenal in this film. He has a lot of dramatic scenes all of which land. I think in some way, he is even better than Elle Fanning. Riley Griffiths as Charles
Kaznyk is so good as a young director of a movie within the movie. Especially when he starts yelling swearwords at other kids. And I guess one of my favorite is Ryan Lee as Cary. A kid who likes to blow shit up and light everything on fire. And you might think that the movie has to teach him a lessor, right? No... His obsession with explosions actually comes as an aid to save the characters in a dangerous situation. I fucking love this movie. Oh and I should probably mention Gabriel Basso who plays the lead of the movie within the movie.
Another reason is probably have to do something with Jewish looks. Being of a middle eastern origin and due to religious reasons, unwilling to mix genes with Europeans, Jews looked very different to the other people. And also because of the tradition, religious Jews wore very different types of clothes. There is a Jewish character described by Charles
Dickens in Oliver Twist. And he writes about this very ugly old man. Probably a sentiment of how people viewed Jews back in those days.
