What I'm about to write here is total bullshit. But it would be a interesting script for a Transformers plot, if Michael Bay returns to making them. Obviously I know that the things here are coincidences or outright made up crap. So obviously I'm not claiming that Sir Christopher Nolan is involved in any of the shit, I'm about to write about. Just sometimes you kind of wander... what if?
There is a very strange thing about Nolan that other film-makers are struggling to do. For example
Tony Scott's films
Domino and
Spy Game received criticisms for their complex structures. And
Domino was both critical and commercial failure, probably because of its complex narrative. Yet somehow Christopher Nolan makes complex movies all the damn time, while also making a lot of money doing so. Even the so called "box office flop"
Tenet did actually quite well. And also considering it was literally released during the height of the pandemic, where nobody was going out to see a movie in the theater, this movie is probably the biggest magic trick Nolan ever made. Remember
Tenet is probably the most complex film from Nolan.
And here is something that strikes me when I remember the whole thing about
Tenet's release. The whole drama about it. Nolan almost wanted it to be
the only movie in the cinema. Now think about it. Tenet is a very expensive, very complex movie. If they could somehow make it
the only movie in the cinema, it could make people go see it, despite it being so utterly complex. So something like the coronavirus was very much good for them, in a way.
The trailer for the film ( that was shot before the Covid Pandemic ) prominently features an image of the main character standing very creepily with a breathing mask on him. While he seemingly goes out into the normal world. In the movie it is explained, that his entropy is reversed. And therefore he requires to have a reversed air, in order to breathe. But for the people seeing this trailer during the pandemic ( including myself ) it was as if Nolan is specifically referencing the masks.
What if Nolan is a member of Illuminati? And what if Covid was unleashed on the population of the world, just to make
Tenet be
the only movie in the cinema? Are you feeling spooked yet?
In
Tenet the beginning and the end of the film happen during the so called "Opera siege". There is a military operation inside of Ukraine, where the movie starts. And there is a military operation in Russia, where the movie ends. But because the movie is about time-travel, those two events happen simultaneously. And then some time later, in the real world, Russia invades Ukraine. Just in time for everybody to start getting worried about World War III and nuclear weapons again. And just in time for Nolan's next movie
Oppenheimer. Are you feeling spooked now?
Or remember the whole Leonardo DiCaprio Oscars thing, before he got his first Oscar for
The Revenant? He just made a movie with Nolan called
Inception and then made a movie with
Martin Scorsese called
The Wolf of Wall Street starring both him and
Matthew McConaughey. For that film Leo was nominated for an Oscar. And it was a huge deal bad then. Everybody were anticipating Leo finally getting what he deserved. But he didn't win. Matthew McConaughey won, for a different movie, called
Dallas Buyers Club. This in turn made people notice McConaughey as a guy who beat DiCaprio ( one of the greatest stars in Hollywood ) in the Oscars. Suddenly McConaughey is cool. And suddenly Nolan is making a movie with McConaughey called
Interstellar. Coincidence?
Before that on
The Dark Knight Rises something happened that has a thematic connection to
The Wolf of Wall Street. There is a theme in the film, that even if people say bad things about you, they still say things about you, which helps you build a brand. Like Belford is making a company to pretty much rob people off their savings, and give this money to the employees, because of insane commission rates and what not. Which makes him be labeled
The Wolf of Wall Street by the press, to try to signal people that it isn't good. Yet later an enormous crowd of applicants is storming his office, because they all want to work for Belford now, because of what the press wrote. Even negative publicity is good advertising.
During the screening of
The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colorado on July 20, 2012, a 24 year old James Holmes opened fire on the moviegoers killing 12 people and injuring a lot more. This made the movie a very talked about film. Not in a good way. But even negative publicity is good advertising. Are you spooked now?
How about
The Dark Knight and the death of the actor
Heath Ledger. That made the news. That made the movie more seen. And that made the Joker that he played so much more iconic, if he killed himself unable to hold the burden of the role.
Or course all of this is just a list of unfortunate coincidences. And I don't really claim that Christopher Nolan planned for all of this to happen, to boost the engagement of the public to his movies. It's a just a fun theory, that's all. A fun "what if"....
Happy Hacking!!!
