A lot of horror films are therapeutic in nature. They let you see and examine some dark things about yourself or the world. And that is a good thing. For example, some people were "cured" from suicidal thoughts by watching the Saw franchise. A running theme in those films, is that Saw would choose some rather depressed, suicidal individuals for the "games". Where they need to do some utterly bad shit crazy things to themselves, to survive. That puts the whole suicide thing into perspective. Making you really understand how pointless it is, as a solution. The 2025 film Vicious written and directed by Bryan Bertino and starring Dakota Fanning is also a therapy horror film.

Obviously I watched the movie because I'm a big fan of the legendary Fanning sisters. Dakota was a legend from the very beginning, and is still a legend now. The whole movie here holds on Dakota's acting ability. And she acts the shit out of this role. Paramount were extremely stupid, not putting this movie into cinemas. Because they could have gotten an Oscar nomination. But I guess Paramount do not know what they are doing lately. Not that I have something personal against them... Anyway... ah...

The psychological premise of the film is something like, you keep doing bad things to yourself because you think those things will help you or whatever. But mostly out of fear. And sometimes, just getting through them, just surviving through not making something bad, is much better. I was afraid, for a second, that the movie will end up being just a dream... You know... Paramount.... And them not wanting films that are too intense lately... not that I have anything to do with this... ah... anyway...

The movie is quite intense, Paramount. Yes... And it even has tension, in one scene, in relation to child-murder, Paramount. And it also has a child killing an adult, Paramount!!! So yeah... Paramount... it is a rather intense movie. Again... I don't know why am I taking this so personally... c:0

There is a cool moment, when Dakota's character looks through old photos, and we see her as a kid ( as how most people remember her ) and I thought that it was a cool fan-service.

The director has interesting shots. And a rather good sense of how to make a tense as fuck horror film. Yet in my opinion, if you don't think of the psychological therapeutic aspect of the film, the plot is kind of hilarious. It tries to be Saw at some points. Like she needs to cut herself in a painful way to survive. And that scene is kind of messed up and tense. But not because of the inevitability. Not because there is something that you know will kill her if she will not do that. But because she is kind of loosing her mind. It is like... She can just ignore the damn thing. And I know that it is the message of the film. But in the moment it makes no fucking sense.

Happy Hacking!!!

Ah... Paramount...

When I have fears that I may cease to be
Before my pen has glean'd my teeming brain,
Before high-piled books, in charact'ry,
Hold like rich garners the full-ripen'd grain;
When I behold, upon the night's starr'd face,
Huge cloudy symbols of a high romance,
And think that I may never live to trace
Their shadows, with the magic hand of chance;
And when I feel, fair creature of an hour!
That I shall never look upon thee more,
Never have relish in the faery power
Of unreflecting love!β€”then on the shore
Of the wide world I stand alone, and think,
Till Love and Fame to nothingness do sink.

I have a soft spot for J. J. Abrams. His masterpiece Super 8 inspired me greatly to develop film-projects when I was a teenager. But his 2009 other masterpiece Star Trek ( together with 2009'th other Sci-Fi masterpiece Avatar by James Cameron ) is what pretty much started my obsession with space movies.

Quentin Tarantino and Roger Avary at some point in their early film-maker lives came up with a bunch of tiny little stories that they wanted to develop into movies. And one day a stroke of genius struck these two. Those little stories could be told together as one film, with interconnected characters. Quentin took off with the concept and wrote the final script. And then took off with said final script and made the movie itself. A movie that a lot of people consider to be one of the greatest masterpieces ever made. Yet, with that, re-watching it for this review, it struck me how amateurish the movie feels, despite its greatness.

One of things that slightly annoyed me on this re-watch...
