Once upon the time there was a group of molecules that was oppressed. And there was another group of molecules next to this one that was also oppressed. Both of them had long established traditions of staying in the group and behaving a certain way. But the oppressed molecules decided to riot. Those on the edge with the other group started mixing together and creating interesting patterns never before seen. Molecules on the far end were confused about all of the movement. Suddenly one or two molecules from the other group traveled to those far regions and were not very welcome by the molecules there. But the mixing continued and patterns became more and more complex, until one time the entire thing was mixed as well as it could be and all molecules were equally spread around. ↩ Reply

George Orwell's book Animal Farm starts with a premise that "All Animals Are Equal" just to destroy this premise by the end when pigs rewrote the message to be "All Animals Are Equal, But Some More Equal Than Others". Turning a premise of freedom into a form of unjust power. This was a criticism on Soviet Union's governmental structure at the time the book was written. The thing we today refer to as communism. A structure of intense oppression by the government in an attempt to make everybody equal. But that suffers from a paradox. The government itself is not equal to the rest of the population. Therefor there is no actual equality. ↩ Reply

Entropy is Freedom

Entropy is a concept in physics describing the spread of energy. Because of Entropy things like perpetual motion machines are impossible in reality since some of it's energy will spread out over time decreasing it's ability to move. Therefor stopping at some point. ↩ Reply

But from the other point of view Entropy is an idea of a kind of chaotic freedom. Of equality of the system that is created not by oppression, but by letting the molecules do whatever they want to do. Imagine a cup of black coffee and another cup of milk. One is black, one is white. But when you poor the milk into the coffee and let it sit there alone. The whole thing will become one color, somewhere in between the two. But it will get there alone. The only help you can give it is stirring. As in adding more chaos to the system. Not adding more strictness. If you will try to keep the system strict. For example by putting a barrier, or by freezing everything, you will prevent it from mixing and therefor prevent it from becoming equalized. ↩ Reply

Freedom is Equal

Freedom ( as I define it ) is control over one self and thing belonging to one self. If there was one person in the world, it would very simple. Freedom would be an ability to do whatever you want. But as long as there is another person, freedoms are spread and equal between the two. ↩ Reply

When it crosses the line of freedom it's called Power or Oppression. If you control other people or things belonging to other people, it's Power - Oppression. And it makes you unequal. Therefor for freedom to truly exist the system should be mono-tonally mixed into total equality. ↩ Reply

But sometimes this goal of mono-tonery is being used by people either intentionally or unintentionally to grow their power, therefor making the whole thing loose it's core principle. This is sometimes called communism. When the government is forcing people to be equal, while in the same time cannot force itself to be equal, because then it will loose the ability to force others. ↩ Reply

The Second Law Of Thermodynamics

In an isolated system Entropy always increases. It goes from total order through total chaos into equality. Always. And it looks like people can be thought of as molecules in such a system. ↩ Reply

Entropy is observable in international politics. From extreme separation between countries and war to a state today reminding the chaos of mixing milk into coffee. From extreme prejudices to something we can't understand yet. The mixing of races and sexes and everything everywhere all at once. ↩ Reply

There are attempts to speed up the mixing by not stirring, but by restricting. By restricting speech the "woke" way. And by calling everybody that resists "white supremacists" and it's rightly being looked upon as expressions of power similar to those of communism. ↩ Reply

If we really want equality and freedom to everyone, we don't need to make the system stricter. On the contrary we need to take a big spoon and stir it. Make it so everybody can speak their minds. And make so everybody else can hear those minds. Ideals will clash! Chaos will happen! But through chaos, through entropy, we get to true Freedom. ↩ Reply

Happy Hacking!!! ↩ Reply

I don't think we will get to true freedom through chaos. Chaos of ideas will result from true freedom in this world. People unintentionally arriving at different opinions or decisions. Bloody chaos (like war or fighting) would happen because people don't want other people to have a different opinion or decision.

During the making of Close Encounters Of The Third Kind Steven Spielberg was already kind of a big man in Hollywood. But from the other side he was still young. Technically speaking this was his third theatrical film. He did work for television from the late 60s. At that time he already directed a number of feature length TV movies. One of them was the famous Duel. And then he did only 2 theatrical pictures: the 1972's The Sugarland Express and the 1974's Jaws. And now there is this movie.

Tony Scott appeared to be trying to outgrow Michael Bay in the 2000s. In 2001 he does Spy Game which is a kind of slightly bayhem-ish movie. Where Tony Scott is no longer trying to make pretty pictures, but is trying to go for ultimate intensity. His Enemy of the State before that, is still more of a classic Tony Scott. While making Spy Game his brother Ridley Scott was making Black Hawk Down while Michael Bay was making Pearl Harbor. While Pearl Harbor has the Bay's explosions and stuff, the colors of the film still look relatively normal. Only his next film ( 2003 Bay Boys II ) go crazy with colors. Spy Game, while being more energetic in directing and editing department, than even Enemy of the State still looks like a normal movie, albeit it is a little desaturated. But Black Hawk Down ( probably in attempt of messing with Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan ) is super moody, with extreme contrast and intense colors. A thing that Michael Bay tries to replicate right away for Bad Boys II and then Tony Scott also replicated for Man on Fire in 2004. And then on Domino in 2005, Tony Scott goes even harder with the style. While Bay is doing roughly the same thing in his own way in The Island.

There is a very strange thing about Nolan that other film-makers are struggling to do. For example Tony Scott's films Domino and Spy Game received criticisms for their complex structures. And Domino was both critical and commercial failure, probably because of its complex narrative. Yet somehow Christopher Nolan makes complex movies all the damn time, while also making a lot of money doing so. Even the so called "box office flop" Tenet did actually quite well. And also considering it was literally released during the height of the pandemic, where nobody was going out to see a movie in the theater, this movie is probably the biggest magic trick Nolan ever made. Remember Tenet is probably the most complex film from Nolan.
