WARNING! This post could be disturbing to some people.
When I learn things, be it programming or 3D modeling, Visual Effects or film-making, I'm trying to gain an intuition for the whole system. For how it all works. For why things are the way they are. At school a math teacher would tell you to use this or that equation. I, on the other hand, like to understand, on an intuitive level, why should I use this equation specifically and how this equation works. Through my articles and other media I make, like my
movies I am trying to understand Freedom, Abuse and how one relate to another on an intuitive level.
I started thinking about those things way back in 2013-ish, when developing
Wrong Hate. Back then I found about
The Venus Project as an inspiration for how I can make the future backgrounds look. This was one of the more detailed looks into what future could potentially be. But it also asked a lot of very hard philosophical questions. Then with Libre Software and
Richard Stallman I refined my understanding of those things.
Today I have an interesting thought experiment for you about specifically the hot topic of 2025-2026: Child Sexual Abuse.
We all know the equation to use: child + sex = bad. But why do we need to use this specific equation? And how does this equation works?
The
EU Commision just posted on their mastodon a video where they complain about an AI tool in a major tech platform that enables people to generate images that resemble children in a sexually suggestive way.
That begs the question. And that is the thought experiment at heart here. Are you ready?
Let's not go to conclusions immediately. Let's actually think about it. Let's make sure we understand what is the difference here. Actually stop reading this and think about it for a few minutes. Try to get the intuition of both examples. Try to weigh them against each other.
...
A lot of people will just fail and say that both are equally bad, because frankly even thinking about it may cause strong
Neropineuphoria. And if you actually try to give a proper answer, you suddenly need to have intuitive understanding for what
"having sex" means, and what
"looking like a little kid" means. And even what is a
"child"?
For example, a lot of makeup women use to attract men, is designed to trick the brain into seeing the eyes as larger than they are. Big eyes = attractive. That is the equation. But why?
As an artist I know a little bit of human anatomy and I know for sure that proportions are different between different ages of people. While the body grows up quite a lot in the course of the first 20 or so years, the head is growing less so. So babies look like they have giant heads. Their heads are smaller then the heads of an adult person. But relative to the body, the heads are huge. But eyes are even more unchanging. So babies usually look like they have two huge projectors in front of their faces.
So here is an interesting correlation: Men like big eyes on faces. And babies have big eyes on faces. This is where the theory of
All Men are Pedophiles comes from. But that is a shallow observation. We understood a bit more. But still didn't actually try to explain why big eyes ( or looking like a baby ) is attractive.
One way to explain it, would be to blame the evolution. With large brains and a complex society, humans ( unlike other animals ) are born under-prepared for life. We need this period of high
neuroplasticity to grasp society. To learn how to operate in ever-changing landscape of public-relations, politics and so on and so forth. So we are born unready when our brains are so plastic, they can learn very fast. ( Try learning a language, an infant can do that better than you, faster than you and be fluent in it, by just listening to people speak ).
This infancy state of learning, though, creates a problem. Babies are so weak and their brains are so plastic that the baby is pretty much unable to stay alive on their own. The baby needs adults to help them survive the state of infancy.
In the course of the evolution, therefor, it is save to assume, we developed a strong likeness toward anything baby-like. Anything that in English now-a-days we call
cute. All humans in the world ( unless something is seriously wrong with them ) are attracted to cuteness. We are all to some extent attracted to babies, because that helps babies survive.
But that also makes us manipulate-able. Women can try to look more baby-like, more cute, to attract us. And that is I how I would explain the correlation.
"Looking like a kid" is to be
cute. Being with big eyes. Being short. Being all playful and stuff. Pushing a button to look like a kid, is equivalent to using makeup to attract a mate and speaking in a nice soothing voice. Adult porn-stars did that very thing for ages. And AI slop-machine optimized for producing the most physically attractive images of people, will most definitely also maximize for
cuteness and therefor those images will most likely remind the appearance of a child.
But what about the other option? A child that pushes a button to look like a mature person. Well let's examine that one.
A lot of kids these days cheat the system. Often when I walk around on the street, I would see teenagers asking adults to please buy them this or that restricted item in the store. Or with the age-verification shenanigans, we can see a lot of "underage" people successfully trick the systems ( and with that us all ) into looking not "underage". They successfully push the button to look like a mature person.
And yet any attempt at restricting that, any attempt at enforcing that, automatically feels wrong. Maybe it feels wrong not because of the logical, straight forward, not controversial reasons, per se, but because we all were kids at one point in our life. We all were curious. We all wanted to experience things that people said wasn't for us. So we all can relate to this feeling. This feeling that drives kids into faking their identity, into pressing the button to become adults.
Or even maybe, because we are all kids ourselves. Maybe we are not that different. Maybe we are not much smarter, or know much more things.
As I explained multiple times already age verification is a sort pseudo-nonsensical industry standard fallacy metric. It pretends to measure readiness for life, while in same time completely destroying any motivation to get ready. If all you need to do is be a certain age, look a certain way, have a certain amount of hair on your face, or a certain amount of wrinkles, you cannot blame kids to try to achieve this, instead of actually focusing on growing up. And this is the problem at hand.
We all are kids that pressed the button to look like adults!
We have facial hair and wrinkles. Our documents say that we were born 18 or more years ago. But we are all just dumb babies unprepared for life in the end of the day. This is why age-verification feels wrong. This is why we relate. They do exactly the same pretending that we are doing. Just we have the
proof of waiting on our hands, while they are still waiting.
All of us at some point in our lives wanted to becomes adults. We wanted to experience freedom. And maybe we even wanted to do that the right way. By getting to the point where we aren't unprepared. Where we actually truly have merit and know how to live our lives. But the information was age-restricted. And no matter how hard we tried, we realized that we will still need to wait those damn 18 years. So instead we chose to try other methods. We chose to cheat age-verification. We chose to develop robust methods to "spend time". We invented scrolling and binge watching and Tik-Tok. If nothing we do will get us closer to the goal of being free, we might as well waste the time. Waste the 18 years on mindless entertainment... But hey, time flies when you are having fun.
The problem is, you get addicted to the constant cycle of waste. You get addicted to scrolling and binge watching and Tik-Tok. And when you finally reach 18, you no longer give a damn. You wasted your opportunity, your neuro-plasticity, on nothing. And so you are 18, yes. But you are still a child. A child in a mature body.
Happy Hacking!!!
