It is strange to believe it, but Soviet Union has ceased existing 36 years ago. That is almost 4 decades ago! In the same regard people who grew up not having experienced the Soviet tales, living in Post-Soviet states are going to find the stories told about it strange. I use the world 'tales' consciously, as in so far as a person falling into that demographic, the accounts of what occurred in years before the fall of Berlin Wall seems strange, hardly believable. And what is even stranger is the 1988 Polish comedy "Kingsajz", as in King Size. From pure luck I happened to stumble upon the movie and upon reading the brief on Wikipedia my eyes were caught on "The movie is an allegory of a communist regime" statement. As far as my experience has it, anti-communist or in general movies produced in utilitarian governments, opposing said governments, tend to be high quality. This is no exception.

The main plot is a heist movie. Revolutionary dwarves, understand anti-communists, need to find the person who has the formula. It holds the ability to turn them to a normal human size or in movie terminology king size. That itself is an allegory to Western world, as perceived through the Iron Curtain. Access to the liquid is only accessible by the privileged. The heist consists of breaking into the walled off city, Dwarflandia. That is done by shrinking, becoming dwarfs or in less allegorical words Communists.

The protagonist, Adam is a revolutionary Don Juan. In first 10 minutes we see him sleep with a woman, break into an another woman's apartment and come back to his fiancΓ©e. Even though the portrayal of this side of him, paints a negative picture, by the end he by far outweighs all the other characters morally.

Ala, The woman to whose apartment it is broken too, serves a side-kick, managing to assist him when a solo mission is not possible. She also posses quite the skill for martial arts. Although fights serve to drive humor rather than thrill or suspense, this being a comedy after all. Her role lies as a sexual icon. That is due to dwarves only being males. I suppose there is an allegory or some sort of secret lying in that plot detail, although I do not see any. As I understand she served as a means to amplify the intensity of erotic scenes. With the intense chase or fighting scenes being broken up by leisurely erotic depictions, with humor mixed in for safety sake. The film works as an early screenalisation of the giant sexual female fetish. Props to director Juliusz Machulski?

Throughout the movie the same question is brought up "why not just stay as a dwarf". The protagonist, Adam, always responded with refuting such an idea. To him the choice must exist. Even though the King Size (Western) world is not fully safe, right of choice is sacred. It is this stance being a confrontation to the idea propagated in the Communist block that people chose to stay. Some did, but not all. And forced labor in the recycling center – gulag – is not going to stop the tides of change.

"Kingsajz" is a package that delivers large punch from a small hand, both literally and figuratively. And it landed hard!

Fin.

Sheiny was in Mendel's house that day. She was looking at some random things on her computer. You know... Getting into a yet another rabbit-hole on Wikipedia. She clicked on a link to an article about Paternalism. And on the right side, beside the text of the article, there was a picture with a caption "Child on a leash". The picture is depicting a child with a rope tied to her torso, which is held by an elderly woman. This image infuriated Sheiny to such an extend that for the next few minutes she could not even talk. How dare they?
