Ever since Piranha II James Cameron shown his friendship with Luc Besson. Both directors are obsessed with marine biology, both are obsessed with strong female characters and both have a strange fascination with the youth. Luc Besson's Leon, The Family and Arthur films have strong child characters in some rather fucked up situations. James Cameron with Aliens, Terminator 2 and the Avatar franchise does the same thing. But have you ever thought how similar both the Terminator and Leon actually are?

If we look at the first film, spoiler alert, but in The Terminator from 1984 we already have a strange psycho-sexual thing going on. Sarah Connor ( played by Linda Hamilton who Cameron ended up marrying, a Luc Besson kind of move on his part ) is falling in love with Kyle Reese ( Michael Biehn ) sent from the future to protect her and most importantly her still unborn son, John. The paradox in the heart of this story is that Reese is the father of John Connor. She had sex with a person so young, he wasn't even born yet. Whatever happens in Leon is nothing compared to this age-difference.

In the end of the same movie Kyle Reese dies, spoiler alert, similarly to how Leon dies. He dies to protect the girl. With an explosive device. Laying on the ground, face up, as the bad guy is right on top.

But then comes Terminator 2 where John Connor is a little kid, with a similar hair-style to Matilda from Leon, and a similar attitude towards life. Both Matilda and John Connor are slightly more criminal and slightly more adult than they should be at their age. Both characters willingly go into dangerous situations. John Connor to protect his mom, breaks into a mental health facility. Matilda to avenge her family, breaks into a police station. In both cases a precipice killer helps them stay alive.

Obviously, both Terminator films happened before Leon, so it is possible to brush it off as plagiarism on the part of Luc Besson. But then think about it. Both Le Grande Bleu and Valerian came out before Avatar 2. And Avatar 2 is stealing visual and atmospheric elements from both of those Besson pictures. These motherfuckers seem to be working together... c:0

Considering that they are fuckers, it wouldn't surprise me if they were more than just motherfuckers.

There are two modes for Michael Bay: The playful mode of him having fun. This is the Bay of Bad Boys and Transformers. And a serious mode. That is the Michael Bay of films like Ambulance, Pearl Harbor and 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. The latter of which is his most serious film ever.

So here comes Edgar Wright, in 2021, and makes a movie that tries to be a real horror film. This must be the real shit right? Wright? Well...
