[icon reviews]Megalopolis: The high-brow bullshit I enjoy

[thumbnail]

There is a kind of very difficult film-style that is extremely complicated to do right, a kind of metaphorical, retro-futuristic, allegorically emotiono-political noir. I've seen many types of this done in such a surface level insane way that they are borderline unwatchable. A good example of this type of movie, which works to some extend, is Blender Foundation's Elephants Dream. But even that is so strange that you have to grind yourself through a strange feeling of something being not quite right when watching it. Megalopolis by Francis Ford Coppola seems like one that actually works. Which I consider to be a big achievement in cinematic science.

Since the last post in this series the project I've been working on became way more ambitious. The original problem I was trying to solve, was figuring out how to use computer graphics ( mainly Blender ) to cut costs for an action scene in a movie I'm developing. It has cars, so the idea was to try to render some CG cars into real life footage. You can go read Part 2 to see my attempts at this sort of thing.

I decided since I don't understand how all of this works, I will just simply ask Jerry personally about all of this data and technical details, so that people will no longer be confused about all of this.

Includes an exclusive interview with Jerry.

When a person breaks a leg, everybody runs to help. When a person breaks a brain, everybody runs away in fear.

For the last few months or so I was getting worse and worse. From the symptoms of vertigo and headaches to insane levels of fatigue. I thought that I'm for sure sick with something very bad.

[icon articles]How AI, ICE and Elon Musk Manipulate People Into Supporting Evil?

Elon Musk is now infamous for showing a Nazi-Salute when Donald Trump became the president for the second time. Yet, this is the same Elon Musk, who's cars were disliked by the same people who have a hard on Trump. People who like to burn gasoline. For them an electric-car company is an epitome of wokeness. It was very funny to see, then, Donald Trump making an ad-read to promote those cars, before realizing what he had done and deciding suddenly to hate on poor Musk. Was Musk playing a part of a Nazi? Was the Nazi-Salute a genius marketing move, to try to make the conservative public of the United States consider buying a car they so disliked? Or was it just a funny set of coincidences?

Before Jerry Bruckheimer was obsessed with telling all his directors to be like Michael Bay and before Don Simpson had passed away. The duo of Simpson and Bruckheimer were obsessed with Tony Scott, the director of such classics as Top Gun, Days of Thunder and Enemy of the State ( which coincidentally were all produced by Jerry and Don, apart from the last film, which was produced after Don's passing ). But Tony Scott didn't only work with the duo. For example in 1993 he made a film not produced by Jerry and Don called True Romance from a screenplay of Quentin Tarantino. Which makes Crimson Tide the second collaboration of the two

Until yesterday I thought that street lights was impossible to make, so I was trying to find some kind of other ways to brighten up the frame at night, so at least it would be visible, but yesterday I stumbled upon something that might work.

The neighborhood where I am working right now is strange when you compare it to the rest of the world. And especially when you compare it to Georgia USA, where a Mother was a arrested for a God forsaken, absolutely unimaginably stupid reason.

[icon reviews]Magnolia 1999 is Paul Thomas Anderson asking you to respect the kids

I have a fear about my current movie project that is not entirely unfounded. If everything works out as it should and I get to the point of pre-production, I might need to hire a good lawyer. The script has major roles for children, but due to the child-labor laws, the money for such roles is paid to the parents and not the children themselves. I want to come up with a way to make it so the kids are the ones that control the money. Otherwise I fear, the parents will steal it from them. Kind of like what we see in the 1999 film Magnolia by Paul Thomas Anderson.

[icon reviews]Guy Ritchie's Revolver 2005 explains Luc Besson

I don't remember when was the last time I had watched a movie so strong that my mind literally cannot stop obsessing over it. Being on a Luc Besson marathon I discovered that there is a misunderstood film which Besson wrote together with Guy Ritchie, which was directed by Ritchie, which is called Revolver. The 13% score on Rotten Tomatoes, in my opinion is there just because the critics were literally too dumb, or too insecure, for this movie. Or because this is something the Ritchie and Besson literally wanted to achieve. If the film became a hit, or was well received critically, the message of the film would not have worked as well as it does.

A lot of people claim that they need to use proprietary software, either for work or something else. And the question is. Do they consent to it, or the existence of a need makes it some sort of a power dynamic?

As I said previously in another article I am in a very bad position financially. To the point that back when I wrote it I believed that I might actually be dead. Later I wrote an update that didn't work much as an update, because it was more a philosophical piece about how I want to get out my problems ( as in how do I justify trying to get out of my problems ). So I hope I will not diviate this time around from actually writing an update.

What can be said about Godzilla? It is an icon to name icons. Looking at IMDb, it is unfortunate, although expected, to find 2014 release of Godzilla has 10 times as much ratings as the original 1954 version. Even though some scenes do look pretty goofy, a lot of love was undoubtedly put into it. That love is not always felt when viewing with modern sensibilities. I attempt to remedy the poignant feeling by calculated and logical reasoning and arguments... or more so my own acuity of the work.

I'm developing a game called Dani's Race, which is supposed to be a GTA clone. A game where you can run around a city and cause all kinds of mayhem. And a humongous part of the experience of such a sandbox world simulator are the reactions from the in-game non-playable characters. If you steal a car, what will be the reaction of the driver? What will the police in the game do? What will other drivers do if you hit them on the road? All of this is a part of my daily problem-solving when working on Dani's Race.

When I reviewed Havoc I wrote about this strange feeling that I dubbed "short orgasmic blackout" when I see a stupidly serious, angry face of a female character that is really cute. And one of the most cutest actors living these days is fucking Ana de Armas. Let me illustrate. We see young Victoria Comte playing Eve ( the main character ) while being 11 ( Comte was born in 2013, do the math ), and then the film says "12 years later" so now she is 23. Yet de Armas playing her is 36 ( at the time of filming ). She plays somebody almost half her age and it works. Why? She is fucking cute! That's why. And because of that I knew I was probably getting the "short orgasmic blackout" the movie.
