Licorice Pizza 2021 is how PTA beats Besson at his own game, while getting a Best Picture Oscar nomination

As I explained
in my article on the matter a quality of a film could be measured in how well it "corrupts" the audience. And being a motherfucking genius
Paul Thomas Anderson decided to show everybody, who's the boss. His 2021 film
Licorice Pizza which was nominated for the Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay at the Oscars. And has a fairly decent 90% score on Rottent Tomatoes, is doing the same thing as
Luc Besson's
Leon: The Professional, but better. To put it lightly, it shows a romance between a minor and an adult. And it says that "it's okay, actually".

In my review of
Robert Rodriguez's film
Machete Kills I speculated that
Quentin Tarantino introduced a small reference to
Grindhouse movies in
Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood to fulfill a rather outlandish promise from the fake trailer of
Machete 3 in the beginning of
Machete Kills. That there would be a
Grindhouse movie with
Leonardo DiCaprio. I think
Paul Thomas Anderson just beat Tarantino in this regard. His 2025 film
One Battle After Another ( starring DiCaprio ) is a straight up remake of the first
Machete.

Le Dernier Combat 1983 doesn't need subtitles

French 1983
Luc Besson film
Le Dernier Combat has 2 spoken words throughout its 1 and a half hour runtime. Both of those words are
Bonjour, which I bet you already know the meaning of. The film is about a post-apocalypse future where humans lost the ability to talk. The one time two characters in the film have an exchange of
Bonjours doesn't even require the understanding of the word to get the impact. It's about them finally being able to utter a word. It is not about them exchanging information.

What is the meaning of "The Lovely Bones" 2009 by Peter Jackson?

In my review of
Transformers 4 I touched upon the uncanny resemblance of it to
Peter Jackson's
The Lovely Bones. I have not seen the movie when I did that. I knew it existed. I knew what it was about. I've only seen it now, for the first time. And the uncanny resemblance ( as in, the father is played once again by
Mark Wahlberg and the villain is played once again by
Stanley Tucci and we have
Steven Spielberg's involvement ) is rather strange. It begs a rather profound question, what was the point to make the movie?

Mission: Impossible 2 ( 2000 ) is the best Mission: Impossible

A lot of people are big fans of the
Christopher McQuarrie movies in the
Mission: Impossible series. A lot of more sophisticated movie goers prefer the more serious first picture directed by
Brian De Palma. Some are the fans of the
Brad Bird and
J. J. Abrams installments. But almost everybody unanimously loves to hate on the
John Woo second film
Mission: Impossible 2. I frankly, don't get it.

Caught Stealing 2025 is a bit dark for a comedy, but way too bright for Aronofsky

Vincent D'Onofrio pops up on my radar lately. I somehow get attracted to the same movies as the actor, which probably means that I need to review
Full Metal Jacket by
Stanley Kubrick, where D'Onofrio had his, probably, most iconic role. In any case D'Onofrio played an Ashkenazi Jewish gangster motherfucker in a
Darren Aronofsky 2025 film
Caught Stealing. Something that I had to see, just based on the absurdity of it.

Steven Spielberg directed some rather intense movies throughout his career. He made
Duel in 1971 about a maniac truck driver. He made a blog-buster sensation
Jaws in 1974. And he made films like
Schindler's List and
War of the Worlds that could be considered horror films. But he never did a true, scary horror film. My mother used to say that "Steven Spielberg is too sentimental to make truly scary movies". But that statement isn't true about his daughter Destry. 2025 film by
Destry Allyn Spielberg Please Don't Feed the Children shows that she is capable to rival fucking
Eli Roth if she wants to.

Snake Eyes 1998 is De Palma's attempt at restoring his Hitch spirit

Watching the opening scene of
Brian De Palma's 1998 film
Snake Eyes makes you realize that this motherfucker is trying very hard. We have 13 minutes of
Nicolas Cage running around a very crowded set. The scene is clever with its camera, giving us multiple layers of exposition in the same time. Like there could be a TV on the foreground and Cage on the background. And they seem unrelated at first, but the scene establishes most of it's plot details right in this very shot. And then the shot ends ( 13 minutes later ) at the exact moment, the script drops the "inciting incident". De Palma is really trying hard to direct the shit out this movie.

In my
Predator 2 review I observed that the merger of
Alien and
Predator franchises was not a
Paul W. S. Anderson's ( the director of
AVP ) fault, since even that movie already had a lot of
Alien references in it, including a Xenomorph scull. So it was almost expected by this point that the next movie in the franchise would feature Xenomorphs.
